Overview

Prayer Hall (Upasana Ghar / Kanch Mandir), Santiniketan
The Prayer Hall, also known as Upasana Ghar or Kanch Mandir, is one of Santiniketan’s most stunning architectural gems. Constructed entirely of Belgian glass, its name literally means “Glass Temple” (as kanch means glass in Bengali).

Graduates of Visva-Bharati are traditionally honored with a branch from the Saptaparni tree that grows here — a symbol of enlightenment and connection. The nearby Prayer Hall adds to the sanctity of the place, making it one of the most revered sites in Santiniketan.
Srijani Shilpagram, Santiniketan
Srijani Shilpagram, the cultural village of the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), is located in Birbhum, near Santiniketan. Spread over 26 bighas, it features nine traditional huts, each representing one of the EZCC member states — Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Odisha, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Each hut is designed in the traditional architectural style of its respective state and displays a variety of cultural artefacts and handicrafts — over 1,000 items, most more than 25 years old. The aim is to provide a realistic and immersive glimpse into the rich and diverse heritage of Eastern India.
