In a major update today, Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) announced the new one-way fare for the Bagdogra–Gangtok helicopter route has been reduced to ₹ 3,100 per passenger, down from the earlier ₹ 4,500.
What’s changed
Free baggage allowance is now 7 kg per person.
Excess baggage between 8–15 kg will be charged at ₹ 50/kg, while items over 15 kg will be charged ₹ 500/kg, depending on available cargo space.
Prices for joy-rides and chartered helicopter flights remain the same, and separate pricing applies for medical flights.
What this means for travelers
For anyone planning a trip to Sikkim this winter, the fare cut makes helicopter travel between Bagdogra and Gangtok significantly more affordable. The reduced cost combined with the time saved — the flight covers the route in around 30–40 minutes compared to a 4–5 hour drive – could prompt many more tourists to opt for the chopper service.
